Do you currently work in the childcare industry?
Yes, I enjoy the work especially when I am in a friendly team environment.
Have you always wanted to work with children?
Working with children was not always my first choice but having my mother, grandma and aunties all working in the childcare industry, it was a career path that I had thought about often. I am happy that I have made the choice to follow this path.
What is the best thing about working with children?
Watching them learn and grow and knowing that you have helped and supported them. When they reach new milestones or are able to do something they couldn’t do before it is very rewarding.
Any tips for juggling work and study commitments?
Time management, don’t try and study when you feel stressed or anxious. Study in smaller blocks of time to allow yourself some “me time". Don’t try to study when you are hungry. Find a nice quiet place that has a calming space for you to think.
What advice would you give to other students thinking of studying?
Research the industry first to make sure it is what you want to do. Have a look at the study requirements to see if it is achievable and can fit into your lifestyle. Make sure you are ready to commit to the term of the course. Have a passion for the industry.
Do you have any study tips to give to other students thinking of studying?
Find a study buddy. Access the available information given to you by the training organisation. If the questions seem over whelming, break it down into smaller parts. Try to answer the questions using the language within the question. Choose a study time when you feel fresh and alert.
Tylah’s Bio:
Tylah is 18 years old and lives in Leichardt. She has three brothers and a boyfriend, Tyson. Tylah’s spirit animal is the Elephant. “They are fearless and have a large presence. Although they are large in size and I am only small, they walk gracefully and have strong family values”.

There are now over one million children in Australia going through a family breakdown. This almost always causes stress for children, with over 25% of children experiencing long term trauma as a result. Reduced access to once familiar extended family, the introduction of stepparents and step siblings, and the reduced presence of once consistent parents, can all contribute to children feeling fearful and uncertain. This week, Dr Mary Anne Hall from EPEC Education, provides five ways teachers and carers can assist children in transition while they are at school and at day care.
Supervising children adequately is the most important skill an early childhood educator can have. While having the ability to provide children with a safe and secure environment may seem like an easy task, there are over 1000 cases annually, whereby Australian children are seriously hurt in the early childhood setting. These accidents range from fingers being jammed in doors; dislocation and broken bones; choking; scalds and burns; to children having adverse allergic reactions. These accidents can and do, have dire consequences. This week, Dr Mary Anne Hall from EPEC Education, highlights five factors that should be considered when supervising children.
