We all know that studying online is a more convenient way to study, but is it really that easy? This week Mary Anne from EPEC Education talks Beyonce, social networking and how to smash out your assignments.
1. Be Tech Savvy
Know how to navigate your way around your Online Learning System BEFORE you start your studies. Having IT problems will stop your progress and prevent you from advancing.
2. Invest in an additional computer screen
This is one of the biggest and unknown tips of all! When you are studying online, you don't have the benefit of having a book that you can flick through and take notes on, and tag certain spots. As a result, you need to be creative in how you read your online learning materials. While I understand purchasing an extra screen is another cost, it really makes a huge difference. It allows you to read your learning materials on one screen, while answering your assessment questions on the other.
3. Get Toggling
For those of you who cannot afford an additional screen, you have the option of 'toggling' between screens on the one computer. I would suggest this as a good alternative. It is also important to still take written notes. Often it is helpful to READ THE ASSESSMENT QUESTION FIRST, then read the materials and take written notes of the important areas.
4. Take your chances
Don’t fall into the trap of trying to block out large periods of time for study. With today’s busy lifestyles, you need to take study opportunities when you have them. Even 15 minutes can be enough to smash out a few answers, or jot down some study notes. Don’t be scared of online study. You need to learn to be flexible. Jot down study notes while relaxing in the park, or even read assessment questions between the ads on TV! The point is, little chunks of time will quickly add up.
5. Find your Beyoncé
Join online webinars and tutes wherever you can. Trainers will reward those who log in to these sessions. They may even give you answers to specific questions. Having a relationship with your trainer will make your study easier.
6. Start connecting with your peeps
Start chatting with other students who are studying online. This allows you to problem solve, tackle hard assessment questions, and build a social network. Who knows, you might meet someone really special <3
7. Spread your Net wide
Trainers love to see original thought. Using your own ideas really shows you are grasping the materials. How do you get this info? You discuss your studies with your family, you jump onto Google, and most importantly, you talk to your study peeps!
8. Loosen up!
Don’t overthink the process. The Internet is a Universe of information. There has never been an easier time in history to study. Information is at everyone’s fingertips. Go get ‘em!
